Unknown armed men have this morning raided offices of Citizen’s Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU).
The National Coordinator, Crispin Kaheru, said the raid happened on December 26 at 2 Am. “They (men) disarmed the guard on duty. We are yet to assess the level of damage as well as what was taken away,” he said.
Civil society organizations have become targets of raids and closures of recent especially the ones deemed critical of the government. ActionAid and Uhuru civil society organizations have already fallen victims were their offices have been raided and their accounts closed.
These CSOs have been carrying out numerous activities like education, health and sanitation, hence supplementing on what government has not done in communities. Their closures have led to untold suffering of children, elderly and the vulnerable groups that they support.
