Arua-The locals of Barifa over the weekend recovered a gun that was allegedly robbed from a UPDF soldier who was murdered in Arua town.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer for West Nile, Ms Angucia Josephine: “One Ali Tiondi, resident of the area was trying to trace for his stolen iron sheets in the forest. When he saw the gun man resting, he called his neighbours who came armed with Panga and approached the robber. Immediately the robber jumped from sleep, attempted to grab the gun to shoot them but they struggled to remove the gun from him and cut him several times on the head, arms, back and legs.”
The gun was then taken to Arua Central Police Station. “A team of detectives moved with police dog so as to trace for the where about of the robber all in vain. Some witnesses confirmed that the suspected robber who was badly injured was whisked away by his friends to unknown place,” Angucia said.
As police investigations continue, it was discovered that this was the very gun robbed from UPDF officer Private Otimong James attached to 503 brigade who was killed on May 13 while for official duty at Arua hill Boma ground buy unknown assailants.
It is also connected to a number of murder by shooting that rocked Arua town and its suburb in Muni area, immediately after robbing the gun. It was robbed with 120 rounds of Ammos but yesterday only 13 rounds of ammunitions were recovered.
Case file has been amended to include murder besides illegal possession of fire arms.
