Nebbi- Baby Coach traveling from Paidha to Kampala was today afternoon involved in an accident at Acwera in Nebbi district.
The driver of the bus, Brown Turyatunga was confirmed dead as the truck hit his side. Five others who were critically injured have been rushed for treatment at Nebbi hospital.
One of the survivors, Walisalawo, said the rear part of the oncoming truck hit their bus as the truck driver was in the middle of the road and over speeding. He said: “The driver of the trailer was over speeding and he was on the middle of the road. So the behind part of the trailer hit the side of our driver and we nearly overturned if the Co-Driver did not act fast to save our lives.”
The Baby Coach was from Paidha town in Zombo district heading to Kampala. The OC Traffic for Nebbi district, Mr Richard Olili, said the accident was caused by the reckless truck driver who was over-speeding. “The high speed by the driver made it difficult for the bus driver to negotiate because the trailer was in the middle of the road. He is still on the run but we have impounded the truck,” he said.
In December last year, two buses were also involved in an accident less than one kilometer from the scene of today’s accident.
