The South African president, Jacob Zuma last night resigned following pressure piled by the African National Congress.
“No life should be lost in my name and the ANC should never be divided in my name. I have come to the decision to resign as President of the Republic with immediate effect. Even though I disagreed with the decision of the leadership of my organization, I have always been a disciplined member of ANC,” he said.
He said he would dedicate his energy to work on the policies of the organization especially economic transformation. Zuma was late last year voted out as President of the ANC, one of the Africa’s oldest parties. He was replaced by Cyril Ramaphosa.
He faced numerous accusations and a force combined to push him out of power especially from the opposition and some members of the ANC. This worked in the favour of the forces last night.
He has been the President of South Africa from 2009. He was born in 1942.
