Kampala. The Church of Uganda House of Bishops sitting at Uganda Christian University on 22nd August 2018 elected the Rev. Wilson Kitara the 3rd bishop of Kitgum Diocese.
The Arch Bishop, Stanley Ntagali has been acting from the time Bishop Benjamin Ojwang retired in February 2015. The search for the new Bishop had been going on since 2015.
Bishop John Charles Odurkami has been the Caretaker Bishop of Kitgum, providing episcopal leadership on behalf of the Archbishop. He likes evangelism, Bible study, and learning new things. He is married to Ketty Auma Kitara with three children.
According to a press release from the secretariat, the Bishop attained a Master of Arts in Theology and Health Care Management from Uganda Christian University in 2014 and a Bachelor of Divinity from Bishop Tucker Theological College (now UCU) in 1998. He also received post-graduate diplomas in Administrative Law and Human Resource Management.
Rev. Kitara was ordained a deacon in 1999 and a priest in 2001 in the Diocese of Kitgum. He has served as a parish priest, Diocesan Secretary, school Chaplain, and Head Teacher, most recently at Rev. Jabuloni Issoke Memorial College.
