Arua-The State Minister for Internal Affairs also area MP for Terego East, Obiga Mario Kania has expressed disappointment over the corruption scandal in which Arua has been ranked as the second most corrupt district in Uganda.
Arua was named as second corrupt district after Kampala following the Inspectorate of Government report for 2017. The scandals stems from the number of cases especially in local governments registered at the IGG regional offices.
Speaking to the press over the weekend, Kania expressed ignorance on the basis of the research undertaken which proved Arua in the number two position of being a corrupt district. “I suggest that there is need for urgent meeting to find out reality of the revelation that exposed Arua in the midfield of Corruption in Uganda. This report has left us with a shame.”
Earlier a report by Acord also rated the LCV chairman of Arua,Wadri Sam Nyakua as the worst Chairperson. That rating was won by Gulu LC V chairman, Ojara Mapenduzi as the best district Chairman. They were rated on service delivery, monitoring of government projects and their relationship with the tax payers and the manner in which government projects are implemented.
Worst: The LC5 Chairman who has been ranked by Acord as worst LC5 chairman in Uganda.
But Nyakua rubbished the report rating him as the worst saying it was a fake report. “This is a fake report which I cannot accept,” he said.
Although the leaders deny the fact of having poor service delivery, the roads especially in Terego, Vurra Sub-counties, and bridges in Madi-Okollo have remained in sorry state. The performances in schools both in primary and secondary have remained dismal. The Health sectors have continued to suffer from poor services as there is no close monitoring and supervision in the district.
Kania said the meeting would be used as a starting point to trace the root cause of corruption and the poor service delivery in the district.
