Moyo- The community members in Obongi County have started a drive to contribute and buy a bus that will help in transporting sportsmen and other activities in the County.
The plan is to buy a community tour and travel bus. During a consultative meeting in Obongi, the MP, Mr Hassan Kaps Fungaroo says that the need to acquire the bus arises from the local community who often approaches him on any issue that affects them.
He added that when a community bus is acquired, it will reduce transport costs and also help in educational and sports tours that most schools and sports teams in Obongi lacked.
“This is purely an initiative of the community. they came to me and raised the issue of lack of proper means of transport in the county. The only means available is tipper lorries and one cabin pickups which are often overloaded,” Kaps said.
Members from all the sub counties who were present represented by their LC1s excitedly said they will contribute generously to purchase the bus.
Adiye Kanta an LC1 from Dongo village Itula sub county says that whoever doesn’t contribute to buy the bus is an enemy of progress.
Tiondi, LC1 Palorinya East says his village has a household of 225 and are willing to contribute when the good news was delivered to them.
Pawell Moses a youth chairman, encouraged the youth to embrace development by contributing generously because the bus will be source of employment some youth who can operate it.
Other people present were Refugee Welfare Chairpersons (RWC)from the various refugee settlements in Obongi county. Logbworo John RWC2 from Morobi settlement pledged Shs 100.000 as his contribution to buy the bus.
Kaps Fungaroo told journalists in an interview that the drive to Purchase the community bus is a deal done because his people contributed to buy and ambulance before. He added that his people always standout when it comes to addressing issues affecting them.
However, there are negative people among the community who sabotage development. During the previous fundraising drive to buy a community ambulance, the then RDC of Moyo Mr John Abingwa vowed to arrest anyone found fundraising but the people of Obongi.
Maiku Paul Didi the former vice chairman LC5 Moyo district was elected Chairman organizing committee of the fundraising. He’s also the current acting Mayor of Obongi Town council. Treasury was Edea Joyce a head teacher Itula primary school, General secretary is Drani Geoffrey and Secretary for information and publicity is Pawa Moses.
