Moyo-The Management of Uganda Electricity distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has suspended their staff James Dricho from duty on the allegations of causing financial loss to the company.
According to a document seen by West Nile Press Online addressed to the accused staff was allegedly requested for new pole to replace rotten ones when in actual sense he used them to connect new customers who should have paid for the pole.
“Defrauding customers of millions of shillings and bring the company name into disrepute as a result. This suspension takes immediate effect with half pay to pave way for a complete investigation on this matter and you will be availed the finding of the investigation to which you will be required to give a written explanation to defend yourself,” the suspension letter written by Bonnefance Barongo from Human Resources reads.
Speaking to West Nile Press Online, James Dricho, denied any wrong doing that he has never abused the office and did not defraud any person as alleged or had no intention to do so.
“I have been a loyal and diligent servant of the company until the allegation and I want to bring to your attention that I have never done anything without notifying my supervisor for advice and in fact the accusation of implementing and supervising unauthorized work was done with the supervisor’s full knowledge and instructions,” Dricho said.
He acknowledged that he picked Shs 11 million in two installments of Shs 3 million and Shs 8 million meant for upgrading of network and connecting three phase meter and spent it for the work as directed by the supervisor.
But Joshua Mulema, the Station Manager UEDCL Moyo said the matter has already reached to high level and investigations are going on by the police. “At the moment police is conducting investigations while the accused has been suspended much as he is still of UECDL,” Mulema said.
