Form own security companies, minister advises West Nilers

Arua. The minister of state for urban development Mr Mario Obiga Kania has advised the business community in the West Nile region to unite and form their own security companies.
Kania said the move would curtail the movement of young men and women from the region to Kampala where they are recruited into private security companies where they don’t make much savings.
He was speaking Friday at the farewell sendoff of the outgoing regional police commander, Edward Sserunjoji and West Nile’s long serving regional police spokesperson, Josephine Angucia and three others.
Sserunjoji has been promoted to commissioner of police and appointed in charge of small arms and private security companies while Angucia, who served in West Nile for about 10 years is heading for a senior Command course in peace and conflict studies at Bwebajja for a period of one year.
“Form your own private security companies, it is cheaper. You know when our people remain here, they do not spend a lot when they are home but spend on rent, food and many others when they are away,”Kania said.
It has been a custom for many security companies in Kampala to recruit young people into their ranks to go and work away from the region.
A resident of Arua town, Loyce Avako, said: “I left working with a security company in Kampala because of high costs of accommodation, unclear transfers and intrigue at work. I think it would be good if we have our own security companies here, it can help.”
