By Dramadri Federick

Arua. The Inspector General of Government IGG on Tuesday swung into action and arrested two Arua City officials and a contractor for allegedly causing financial loss to the government.

The arrest follows an IGGs inquiry into the procurement of 32 solar powered streetlights along Oluko Road that were installed in May 2022.

Without giving more details Ali Munira, the IGG spokesperson said that IGG discovered an excess of Ushs 24 million that was inflated payment for the installation of solar security lights on Oluko Road in Arua City.

These people were arrested for allegedly inflating figures during the procurement of solar lights during the period from January to May 2024, and they are expected to appear before court tomorrow (Wednesday).

The suspects
The three who were arrested include Anthony Dradria (Senior Civil Engineer, Arua City), Sam Benjamin Adriko (Principal Treasurer, Arua City) and Godfrey Adoroti (Managing Director, Godmax Services Ltd).

Response from City
Consolate Olemaru, the Senior Communication officer Arua city confirmed the arrests saying that the officers have been transferred to appear before court tomorrow.

Olemaru said the City legal team is making arrangements to follow-up the case.

“The arrests are true, but we do not have any other communication, and we are yet to get official communication from IGG on the alleged charges. Our legal officer is yet making a follow up and we shall give more details later on,” she said.

On 14th October, 2024 the Town Clerk Arua city, David Kyasanku, informed councilors during an extraordinary council sitting at the city council hall about the presence of the IGG team and other Anti-corruption agencies who were carrying out audits into the procurements done in the city.
