Nebbi- The High court has ordered Electoral commission to conduct fresh election for the Member of Parliament for Nebbi Municipality.
Court found that the current MP, Suleiman Hashim to be lacking requisite academic papers. Justice Ojok Anthony nullified the elections.
There were a lot of anxiety before the court session as many supporters from both sides thronged the Chief Magistrate’s court in Nebbi town.
In the last concluded municipal elections of 2018 candidate Onega Robert petitioned court to conduct a fresh elections due to the irregularities that were exhibited during the elections.
It was discovered that electoral commission nominated and declared wrongfully Ashim Suleiman as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Nebbi Municipal Council.
“Court found that Suleiman did not possess the minimum qualification to allow him be nominated and elected as the member of Parliament.”

Basing on the document tendered before Court, it was evident that, there was variations in the four names as; Okethwengu Hashim and Ashim Suleiman and there was no supporting legal document to that effect.
However High Court judge Oyuko Anthony Ojok delivered the judgment in the presence of Erias Lukwago Counsel for petitioner and Michael Okecha Lawyer for Hashim Suleiman.
After the session, police fired teargas and arrested the petitioner, Robert Onega and drove him to Central Police station. The charges on him have remained unclear as police locked him in the cells.
