Arua– In this world, there is life and death.
And for Dick Nyai, he was God’s gift to the people of Arua particularly, Ayivu County where he served as an MP for two terms. Now the Lord has called him to rest with him.
The former MP passed on today as announced by his brother, Mr Samson Mademaga.
Dick Nyai, one of the finest politicians Uganda has ever had, passed on today at 1Pm at Arua Regional Referral hospital.
“As many people may be aware, Dick has been an HIV Activist for a long time. A good friend indeed is a brother. When his condition was bad, he called me to alert one of his best friends, Lulu Henry to see him in the hospital. But on the night, we brought him, we did not sleep because he was in pain.”
In 1979, he announced the overthrow of Idi Amin while working for Radio Tanzania in Dar es salaam. 1953, Dick Nyai studied at Jiako Primary school in Arua and between 1955-57 he studied at Budo Secondary school.
The Ayivu County MP, Bernard Atiku, while paying his tribute, said: “Ayivu will only celebrate your life for you raised our heads so high that we shall for eternity be proud of you! Your legacy lives on. Rest in peace my mentor.”
Mr Martin Andua, the Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, said: “He was somebody who was courageous who expressed his opinion with honesty. He was one of the greatest sons of West Nile. We need to emulate the ideals of honesty for which he stood. We should be able to accord him a decent burial.”
