Kampala- A revamped Kiira EV, Uganda’s first electric car will be exhibited at this year’s parliament Science, Technology and Innovation Exhibition (STI) week which will take place from December 10th-14 at the parliament ground floor car parking lot.
The exhibition dubbed, “transforming the country through Ugandan innovations” is intended to empower and support Uganda’s innovators and enhance socio-economic transformation of the country through application and use of Ugandan local materials, Rtd. Major Bwino Fred Kyakyulaga, the Chairman of the parliamentary committee of Science Technology and Innovation, said in a statement.
“The innovations that are to be exhibited include new ideas, creative thoughts, and new imaginations in form of device or method and value chain additions.”
The Registrar General and the entire institution of the Uganda Registration Services Bureau will attend the event to ensure that the exhibitors’ intellectual property rights are registered.
The exhibition, which will be officially opened by the Speaker of Parliament Ms. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga on December 11, is expected to expose viable innovations to government, for consideration for funding from the Innovation Fund.
The Jacob Oulanya, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, will close it on December 14th while, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, the Prime Minister and Leader of government business in Parliament, together with his officers in the Office of the Prime Minister, are expected to participate and take note of the innovations that urgently need government support.
Kiira Motors Corporation is a government company whose key objective is to produce commercial cars at the Jinja Industrial park.
Mr Paul Isaac Musasizi the KMC, Chief Executive Officer, said: “One of our strategic objective is to set up and operate vehicle plants and service centers for the assembly and selling of vehicles and provision of vehicle support products and services that exceed customer expectation.”
