Koboko- The residents of Ombachi trading centre and food vendors at the market in Koboko North division are worried of their health as the town continues to suffocate from uncollected garbage and waste.
The most affected are food vendors, hotel operators, butcheries and customers.
Speaking to West Nile Press Online at Ombachi market, a section of vendors say they are facing health challenges from the waste as the stench from the garbage, flies and dirty water.
‘They also said the garbage at the market collection point has stayed there for the past five month which have given them unhealthy oxygen. With the return of rains, there is fear of cholera outbreak in the area.”
Mokili Emmanuel, a vendor at Ombachi said cases of sickness with the vendors has increased due to the unhealthy air and environment the vendor is operating. He also said the garbage has stayed next to the market for the past five months yet tax is being collected from them.
Magassa Stalas the town clerk for Koboko Municipality said there has been break down of the garbage trucks and limited resources.
He however called upon communities to have good health and sanitation practices to minimize cases of diseases as the rain season starts.
