Arua-A man in Arivu Sub-county is nursing injuries at Arua regional referral hospital after he sustained deep cuts on the head as the mob attempted to lynch him.
The man was accused of stealing cattle. It is alleged that some passers-by found him packing the carcass of a cow he had slaughtered in the bush by some passers-by.
The mob immediately descended on the suspect, beat him up and left him in coma with multiple cuts on his head, arms and back until police in Arivu rushed to the scene and rescued him.
He was later transferred to Arua CPS together with the exhibit and rushed to Arua regional referral hospital where he is struggling for his life.
The CIID officer Arua, Innocent Dusabe, said by the time police reached the scene, Bob was already unconscious and the mob had thought he had passed on.
He added that some of the colleagues of Bob disappeared in to the bush as police continues to hunt for them.
According to Olima Justus, a resident of Arivu Sub-county said so far ten herds of cattle were stolen since last week in one village and have not been recovered.
Intelligence reports indicate that the thugs steal the animals, skin the in the bushes and transport the meat for sale to Hotels in Arua town at cheaper prices.
Following the incident, Police have warned the public to be security vigilant and report criminal elements to the police for immediate action.
Theft of animals has drastically gone up since the beginning of last month in the Counties of Madi, Terego and parts of Nebbi district.
