Arua-The President General of the Democratic Party Nobert Mao has continued to push for the Nile Republic.
Speaking in Arua, Mao said the people in Northern Uganda were being treated as ‘second class’ citizens. He said there is lack of good will to develop and distribution of resources equally in the country.
The DP President said there is continue high levels of poverty, where Karamoja region has maintained number one position followed by West Nile, Acholi, Lango and Eastern regions. “We need to unite and talk about equality between the North and the South. I insist that the dream of the Nile Republic must be kept alive. None of us filled application form to be Ugandans.
He added: The British just fenced in here. We love Uganda but does Uganda love us? Is the money from our tobacco and cotton which build Owen Falls Dam but the electricity we have here cannot even light our bulbs for six hours? Therefore, the DP will be a champion for truth and justice. Why are the promises and peace dividends not reaching our region? We cannot accept to be second class citizen.”
According to Mao, the greater northern region of Uganda has continued to suffer high levels of under development with poor infrastructure, electricity, job creation and deliberate unequal distribution of national resources.
The Member of Parliament for Obongi County in Moyo district Fungaroo Kaps Hassan on the unexplained stagnation of the redevelopment of Arua Airfield in to an Airport, said the only way to come out of the political cage is to lobby the United Nations and other international bodies to support the people establish the Nile Republic
“The only way to achieve real development here and make the people of the greater north benefit from their God given resources is to form their own Country, The Nile Republic,” Fungaroo said.
According to the MP, the regional Parliamentary Caucuses in the north can initiate a demand for establishment of their own country if the reasons are deemed satisfactory to the international rights and policy bodies.
