Maracha- The district councilors are furious over alleged misuse of the road equipment that are being used for private work.
The councilors claim that the equipment is being misused by individuals to do their private works without the knowledge of the district Chief accounting officer.
Mr Francis Govule, the Male Youth Councilor, said on Monday that: “People have been using these machines for even laying bricks. The Chief Administrative Officer who is the custodian is sidelined. We are concerned about this.”
The road equipment has also allegedly been busy over weekends opening roads and transporting river sand, murrums and hard-core aggregates to private construction sites.
“Mr CAO, I want to inform you that when you are not here, this equipment has been abused without your knowledge. Particularly over weekends, this lorry does not rest. It is ever on the road. I am begging my colleague councilors that we should come up with strong resolutions on the usage of these vehicles,” Mr Charles Waga, Oleba Sub-county male councilor said.
The concerns of the councilors came after the District Executive Committee (DEC) presented a report in a council meeting which revealed that the roads equipment are being borrowed and used without control.
The Chief Administrative Officer, Mr Joseph Lomongin, explained that: “This equipment have been given out for genuine purposes. But if they are mismanaged or abused, then it has not come to my attention. I normally give the equipment on the basis of the purpose for which they have been requested.”
He said they are going to restrict the usage of the tipper lorries and graders. The district roads equipment, according to the guidelines are meant to be used for district road works and sanitation related activities.
