Arua. An angry mob has killed an armed man as he and his accomplices attempted to rob a motorcycle and money from a boda-boda cyclist.
However, their efforts failed when the boda-boda man wrestled with the armed man, whom police identified as Jamal Ismail, until the mob came and beat him up to death.
The CIID officer, Innocent Dusabe, told West Nile Press Online that the three, one armed with a rifle used by private security guards, waylaid the boda-boda man Hussein as he headed home, put him on gun-point as the two remained on their bike while the armed Jamal made Hussein to lie down.
“After robbing Shillings 500,000, which the boda-boda man had picked from a loan unit. The thugs made the boda-boda man to lie on the ground but Hussein (the boda-man) grabbed his legs, making Jamal to fall down with the gun and made alarm where other people came and beat the thug to death,” he said.
The incident happened in Ociba. The Deputy RDC Arua, Swaib Toko, commended the locals for their security vigilance but cautioned them against taking the law in to their hands.
He noted that Ociba area has been engulfed by activities of armed thugs, which has also claimed lives of some boda-boda riders before.
Safi Tiyo, the chairperson Arua boda boada association said that Jamal had spent seventeen years in jail 15 of which were in Luzira and two in Arua government prison for theft and robbery.
He added that Arua boda boda association will partner with the police in the district to increase security measures for the boda boda riders, who have become a major target of armed robbers.
The OC station Arua, Jude Nasucha says the gun will be kept for further inquiries while the body of Jamal was taken to Arua hospital mortuary.
Nasucha also urges boda boda riders to be brave in the event of armed attacks and make alarm whenever they are attacked by such wrong elements.
A month ago, another boda boda rider was robbed and killed at the same spot.
