Moyo. The district leaders rejected the construction of a Shs 400 million theatre at Itula Health Centre III in Itula Sub County to allow the relocation of the Sub County headquarters.
Obongi County, Member of Parliament, Mr Hassan Kaps Fungaroo, said that the relocation of the administrative head quarter is more urgent than the construction of the theatre.
“We are giving land for the health centre by relocating the Sub County headquarters. This does not mean that the funds from health sector should be diverted. Without land, you cannot build more structures at Itula Health centre III,” Mr Fungaroo said.
“There will be other construction to be proposed for this health facility (Itula) where are you going to put them? The issue of urgency for Itula Health Centre III is not a building or theatre other than allocating more land which is already there. This should come after the headquarter is relocated.”
Dr Franklin Iddi, the Moyo district Health officer said the reason of establishing theatre at Itula health centre III is because of the refugee population in the same Sub-county so the facility deserves a hospital setting standards.
Dr Joyce Moriku Kaducu, the State Minister for Primary health Care and Moyo district Woman Member of Parliament said the proposal needs to be planned well for the theatre.
“The policy requires that each constituency should have health centre IV and at least in Obongi we have heath centre IV. Let us plan for the Theatre in line with the policy of the ministry. And now, we should be thinking of now getting Obongi Health Centre IV as a district hospital,” Dr Moriku said.
Mr Williams Anyama, the Moyo district Chairman said: “It is already on the paper presented even to UNHCR for funding except the money from UNHCR has delayed otherwise the relocation of the Sub County headquarters would have been done.”
