Nebbi. The police in Nebbi have detained a Senior Nursing Officer on allegation of embezzlement of funds meant for tuberculosis.
The suspect is accused of embezzling Shs 7.6 million meant for tuberculosis monitoring in the district in 2014. According to statements by the hospital management to the police, the suspect has since 2014 been on the run after the money was discovered to have been misused.
The chief administrative officer, Geoffrey Okaka, says after the parliamentary accounts committee asked the district to pay back that money, the decided to look for the suspect where he was found in Adjumani district.
After a warrant was issued, the suspect was arrested and transported to Nebbi district for trials where he allegedly committed the crime. “We expected him (the suspect) to pay back that money because it was a donation by Baylor but nothing happened and now the law will take its course,” he said.
The Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations Department, Hamilton Okidi, says police are still detaining the suspect at the police cells until he is able to repay the money as the relatives says they are looking for the money.
