Two Ugandan Athletes have won Gold Medals during the on-going Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast in Australia.
Joshua Cheptegei clinched to the Gold Medal in the 5000-meter race on Sunday morning. And today, Stella Chesang won Gold medal and Mercyline Chelengat won Bronze medal in Women’s 10,000-meter race.

The two gold medals plus one Bronze currently puts Uganda at position 12. The host country, Australia already has 106 medals. Australia has 39 Gold, 33 Silver and 34 Bronze medals. Among the African Countries with highest medal is South Africa with 18 medals and Zambia so far zero medals.
Athletic races had previously been dominated by Kenyans and Ethiopians. Now this indicates that Ugandans are now setting their foot to out-compete the Kenyans and Ethiopians.
Kenya’s Stacy Ndiwa finished second. Past Gold Medalists in Women category include Arua’s Steeplechase winner, Dorcas Inzikuru. In this Commonwealth, Uganda is participating in various fields including Netball, Boxing among others.
