Arua-As the NRM government is set for the 32nd celebrations in power, a section of local artistes under their umbrella organization West Nile Musicians have demanded for transparency in management of the NRM anniversary entertainment budget.
The event which is scheduled for tomorrow Friday at Arua Hill Grounds in Arua Municipality has attracted people from different government departments and local musicians set to entertain the guests.
But according to some of the artistes set to perform on the day, there has been no disclosure of information on the allocated funds. According to sources, Arua district leaders received Shs 50 million out of the budgeted Shs 300 million for the event.
They also contend that since there celebrations are being held in Arua after 32-years, they should be given priority to entertain the guests other than transporting artistes from Kampala to Arua.
JM Kennedy, one of the outstanding local artistes set to perform on Friday says the information they get comes from hearsay and is not authentic.
According to information from the entertainment circles, two artistes including JM Kennedy and LP Shady will perform alongside other artistes from Kampala.
However an inside source from the district technical team that is managing the arrangements for the day described what is going on with management of money meant for the NRM anniversary as business, adding that the celebrations have been turned into a business where people come to make money and not to give it out.
The Arua Municipality MP, Ibrahim Abiriga, has also joined the artistes in crying foul over the organization. He said the district leaders have been hijacked with most of the responsibilities of organizing the event.
He noted that some of the senior officials often work hard to ensure that they save as much money as they can by either under funding the activity or supplying needed items by themselves at exorbitant cost.
When contacted on phone, the chief administrative officer Arua Ismail Ocheger, who is the accounting officer for the anniversary funds referred the discontented artistes to the district community development officer.
According to some unconfirmed sources, two other heads of state will attend the event for the first time in Arua district and security in West Nile has been put on standby class one with night patrols.
