Zombo. The leaders in Zombo district have asked government to consider elevating Paidha Town council to municipal status.
They say Paidha town council is one of the traditional town councils which became active in 1973 and was the most revenue-based source for Nebbi district by then when it was under the administration of Nebbi district till 2010.
They said if Paidha town council is elevated to municipal status would bring in service delivery nearer to the people. According to the LCIII Paidha town council, Mr John Pascal Wapokra, with the rapid growth of the town, Paidha needs to be elevated to municipal status.
Wapokra said currently, Paidha town council has the total population of 45000 as per 2015 census and if expanded the town population will reach 6000.
He adds that if Paidha granted municipal status, it will have two divisions of Omua and Oturugang with each having three wards.
“We have reached almost 90 per cent to complete submission to expand our town council to municipal status.”
The Chairman business community of Paidha town council, Mr Aggrey Odong, says there is need to elevate Paidha town council to municipal status because there is high population due border market with DRCongo.He says currently Paidha town council is without Health Center IV but, if elevated to municipal status they will have extra services like a hospital and good network.
During the 8th the coronation anniversary of Alur king that was celebrated at Atyak Primary school in Zombo district, the LCV Chairman of Zombo district Mr John Orwiny, delivered a petition to the President Yoweri Museveni to fast track elevation of Paidha town council to municipal status.
